The overall goal of NJPRA Public Policy Committee is to advocate for a mental health system that supports the recovery of individuals who have severe mental illnesses.  The Committee strives to play an influential role in the development, implementation and funding of wellness and recovery oriented service initiatives, as well as the development of state policies, regulations and legislation that support the recovery process. Committee members work closely with State Officials, Legislators and other advocacy groups to achieve these objectives.  Key objectives for 2011 include:

  • Meet 3-4 times this year  with DHS and DMHS administration to share information and ideas related to the transformation of the New Jersey Mental Health System to a Wellness and recovery Oriented System
  • Develop and present testimony at State budget hearings and other relevant legislative hearings
  • Share information on key public policy issues with the NJPRA membership at both the Organizational Member Breakfast and the Annual Conference
  • Meet with key legislators regarding funding for services, workforce development, ongoing deinstitutionalization and other timely issues
  • Assist the Staff Training /Conference Committee in developing institutes related to public policy.
